When one thinks of fashion, the economy is certainly not the first thing that comes to mind. However, the two go hand in hand. Throughout history, fashion trends have changed millions of times, at a rapid rate. New trends can surface and disappear as frequently as the sun sets. The fashion industry, much like the economic state of our nation, is ever-changing. It has its highs and its lows. Fashion trends often reflect the economic factors of the times they are associated with. Furthermore, it is not a question of if the economy impacted fashion, it is a question of how? And how much? Good Economic State; When the economy is strong, fashion tends to be more exciting and experimental. The economic state of the nation directly correlates with people’s emotional state. When we are feeling more secure and confident about our economic state, it translates positively to all aspects of life, including fashion. Fashion becomes more carefree and creative because consumers are willing to purchase out of desire versus need.
